Albert Baronian is pleased to announce Mekhitar Garabedian’s first exhibition at the gallery, entitled “I love you, but I don’t know”.
Art will only arise from something pre-existing; and nothingness will only bear nothingness. Mekhitar Garabedian (born 1977 in Aleppo, Syria / currently living and working in Ghent, Belgium) develops his art from the observation that both human beings as well as an artistic oeuvre is forged from the unpredictable merging of already existing elements. The experience of Mekhitar Garabedian’s work is akin to research in genetics. All is governed by logic and yet, miraculous ramifications occur, hindering the comprehension of it all. The more profoundly one explores his work, the more enthralling and complex it becomes. To create art, Mekhitar Garabedian appropriates fragments of history, art, cinema and literature, mixing them with references to his own environment and heritage.
