In São Paulo, the Rua 25 de Março – an emblematic street in the city center – is

known for its competitive prices. There one will find a strikingly wide range of goods

starting from R$1,00 (one Brazilian Real). Counterfeit products are the greatest

preoccupation for the authorities- although the Chinese businessman Law has been

in prison since 2007, he is still said to be in charge of the pirated goods spread

throughout the shops and stalls. When walking down 25 de Março, one will

frequently hear the following question being repeated: “É do Law?” (Is it from Law?).

Regardless of their provenance, Rua 25 de Março is a street of things, and they are

never still. The bustle of trade sets hundreds of thousands of objects into motion,

animated by the mechanisms of circulation and the propagations of daily life. The

charge is so intense that one finds oneself facing not only objects, but unique and

dynamic displays of forms, light, space and color.

Erika and Adriano have their studios close by, in the same complex as Jac at Rua

Helvetia. Gabriel and Pedro used to be working in a studio nearest to the opposite

end in the neighboring area of Bom Retiro. Max was in residency just a few blocks

up from the street.
